While IBM already has higher-end ECM offerings in its portfolio in the form of FileNet, Lotus customers typically need an ECM offering that is less complicated to deploy, said Alfresco chief marketing officer Ian Howells. By integrating the two sets of applications, Lotus customers, for example, gain access to records management system capability based on an open source application that is not complex set up, he said.
Alfresco Content Services for Lotus leverages a REST-based architecture in Alfresco that is integrated with an implementation of the forthcoming Content Management Interoperability Specification (CMIS), which is finally starting to gain some momentum.
The Lotus integration comes on the heels of Alfresco’s formal roll out of version 3.2 of its software, which the company can now also make available as a service via a cloud computing partnership with RightScale.
Alfresco Content Services for Lotus will be available in the spring.
