AmberPoint Takes Modular Tack on Governance

One of the biggest problems with IT governance is that the frameworks used to manage the governance process impose a top-down approach to application development that developers typically resist.

To solve this problem, AmberPoint is positioning the AmberPoint Governance System as a more flexible, modular approach that does not dictate what the application development life cycle process must be.

Instead, the AmerPoint system can be applied to the entire application development process or just a specific subset of applications. The system then monitors events and updates and automatically discovers new configurations and components and will send an alert any time a particular rule has been violated during the development process. Here's a look at the interface:

Ed Horst, chief marketing officer for AmberPoint, said that rather than building the system around a central database, the AmberPoint Governanace Systems uses the same meta-data model as the company’s application management suite to track changes to the environment. That approach allows the AmberPoint system to be more agile and less intrusive compared to a central database that has to be maintained and regularly updated, said Horst.

That architecture also allows the AmberPoint system to be deployed in a federated model, which means that the AmberPoint Governance System can also be deployed across a cloud environment and on-premise as part for a federated cloud computing environment.

Entry level pricing on average for the system, said Horst, is about $25,000.
