AppDynamics Manages Applications on the Fly

AppDynamics, a startup company making its debut today, is launching what company officials describe as the first dynamic application management platform specifically designed for a new era of cloud computing driven by virtualization.

Version 2.0 of the namesake software monitors the performance of any given application and will dynamically spin up new virtual and physical servers across a distributed set of servers to make sure that all specified application thresholds are met, said AppDynamics CEO Jyoti Bansal, who previously was the lead architect for Wily Technologies.

Components of AppDynamics 2.0 include a Cloud Orchestrator module that dynamically allocates resources based on policies set by administrators, a module for diagnosing performance issues, and the ability to identify issues such as memory leaks, stalls, deadlock and other performance issues.

AppDynamics is essentially combining an application performance management tool with a suite of cloud computing orchestration tools to give application owners not only visibility into performance issues, but also the ability to resolve those issues in real time across any number of distributed servers. In so doing, the state of the art of managing cloud computing has become a lot more dynamic.

According to Bansal, version 2.0 of AppDynamics is not only simple to configure because it borrows heavily from Web 2.0 user interface constructs, the software itself is designed to make it easy for administrators to diagnose a problem in “five seconds or less.”

Pricing for AppDynamics 2.0 starts at $5,000.
