According to Aster Data CTO Tasso Argyros, the company is adding support for column data stores typically associated with open-end analytic applications, versus the more repeatable queries associated with rows of transaction data.
In the same manner that Aster Data supports both SQL and MapReduce interfaces, Argyros said Aster Data is positioning its nCluster 4.6 MPP platform as a flexible engine capable of handling a wide variety of analytic applications.
Argyros said that IT organizations should not be required to deploy separate database and storage systems to support column- and row-level analytic applications.
