With the release of version 2.1 of its Active Intelligence Engine, Attivio is providing a platform for building applications that can pull information from both SQL databases and unstructured documents stored in any number of data sources.
According to Attivio CTO Sid Probstein, the Attivio goal is to create a unified platform for searching information in context regardless of where the data stored. As Probstein notes, while only 20 percent of the data that corporations rely on is hosed in structured data source, that information tends to be critical to specific business processes that companies want to analyze.
Rather than require users to access separate applications to get to that data, Attivio wants to create a platform that allows IT organizations to easily search both structured and unstructured data related to the same set of information queries.
Other new features being added to version 2.1 of the Active Intelligence Engine platform include support for JDBC drivers, the ability to measure sentiment attached to keywords, and support for access control lists to enhance overall security.
