The company announced that it is buying Nimsoft, a provider of network monitoring software, for $350 million.
That acquisition follows on the heels of CA’s acquisition of 3Tera, which was preceded by deals that added Cassatt, NetQoS and Oblicore to the CA lineup.
With the addition of Nimsoft, CA is expanding its base of customers to include more providers of managed services, which newly appointed CEO Bill McCracken said will prove to be critical components of the emerging cloud computing ecosystem. To that end, Nimsoft recently rolled out a capability that allows IT managers to also monitor the performance of cloud computing services and software-as-a-service applications.
McCracken said Nimsoft will operate as a business unit within CA that will be led by current Nimsoft CEO Gary Read.
While CA executives did not specifically address how all these recent acquisitions will be integrated at a product level, they did say that Nimsoft's subscription business model will be unaffected.
