The new CA Virtual Privilege Manager is intended to give IT organizations more control over who has the authority to access the console manager for any given hypervisor. According to Andi Mann, vice president of product marketing for CA Technologies, while virtual machine software has proven to be fairly resistant to external threats, IT executives have told CA Technologies that they are concerned about internal threats that may develop as a result of unauthorized access to a virtual machine.
Mann said that as virtualization evolves, IT organizations are discovering the need for new tools and processes that previously might have only been applied in mainframe environments. But as virtualization becomes more complex, IT organizations are finding a greater need to codify systems management processes.
In the absence of such procedures, Mann said IT organizations are beginning to slow the pace at which they are deploying virtual machine software.
