Canonical Lays Ubuntu Cloud Claim

Canonical continues to expand its ambitions in the enterprise with a release of its Ubuntu Linux distribution that includes a tool for automating the deployment of applications in cloud computing scenarios. Previously known as "Ensemble" during development, the orchestration technologies being included in Ubuntu 11.10 are now known as "Juju."

In addition, Canonical is formally adding support for OpenStack, a set of open source virtualization management tools that automate the management of KVM and Xen virtual machines in cloud computing scenarios.

According to Mark Baker, Canonical server product manager, these additions to Ubuntu solidify Canonical’s claims that Ubuntu is ready for enterprise server environments, especially when you consider that Ubuntu is actually the reference platform on which OpenStack is being developed.

Version 11.10 of Ubuntu also adds support for a beta implementation of Ubuntu running on ARM server processors.
