Charting the Network Timeline

As 10 Gigabit-per-second devices continue to find their way on to the network, IT organizations are about to run into a significant management challenge.

Given the complexity of networks today, many IT organizations rely on devices that allow them to record network traffic for the purposes of analysis and compliance. But most of the existing devices can’t keep up with network traffic that is being generated at 10 Gbps.

To address this issue, WildPackets recently announced a Network TimeLine Recorder that can process data without any packet loss at speeds of up to 11.7 Gbps.

As noted by Tony Barbagallo, vice president of marketing for WildPackets, network management and compliance requirements are not just going to go away because the network is running a lot faster. And as cloud computing evolves, it’s only a matter of time before network bandwidth requirements start to dramatically increase.

A high-speed network recorder might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the next evolution of enterprise networking. But most IT organizations are going to need one.
