Citrix Unveils Intelligent ADC

Citrix today announced the addition of a new DataStream technology to its application delivery controller platform that will automatically send traffic to a specific server based on the nature of the data being sent.

According to Sunil Potti, vice president of product marketing and product management for the networking and cloud group at Citrix, DataStream represents a significant advance in terms of the level of intelligence that can be added into an application delivery controller (ADC).

Included as part of the release of version 9.3 of the company’s NetScaler ADC, DataStream is intended to offload processing from backend servers by balancing application workloads in a way that relies on the ADC to recognize what applications on any given set of servers are associated with that data.

DataStream includes the ability to recognize both structured and unstructured data, including support for MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases. The DataStream technology also inspects all SQL requests in order to manage access control to database resources.

As cloud computing deployments continue to scale up, Potti says it’s becoming critical for IT organizations to start processing data at the edge of the network in order to better optimize how resources are deployed and managed inside the data center.
