The Cleversafe storage architecture is based on a dispersal storage model that breaks data up into slices that are stored across multiple drives. This not only makes the data more secure, but also provide a more cost-efficient model for managing storage by dispersing data over multiple disk drives that can be accessed in parallel, said Cleversafe CEO Chris Gladwin.

In addition to the new dsNet Cabinet 2200, Cleversafe rolled out a new version of its Accesser appliance, which is essentially a router than manages access to the company’s storage servers. The new version adds support for a 10 GB Ethernet and more ECC memory.
Finally, the company added the 2100 and 2200 Slicestor servers, which make use of 2 TB drives to deliver 8TB of capacity in a 1u box, or 24 TB in a 2u box.
While the concept of dispersal storage has been around for a while, the challenges associated with managing I/O performance in both public and private cloud scenarios is inducing some IT organizations to take another look at this approach to storage technology.
