Cloud.com Simplifies VMware Cloud Management

Cloud.com today announced that it has integrated its CloudStack management platform with vCenter and vSphere software from VMware.

According to Peter Ulander, chief marketing officer for Cloud.com, CloudStack provides organizations trying to build cloud computing platforms on top of VMware software an ability to manage their VMware deployments at a higher level of abstraction.

In addition, Cloud.com leverages a fabric approach to distributed computing that allows IT organizations to create “pods” of VMware resources that can be managed as one logical entity. In contrast, he said other approaches to create clouds of resources in the cloud based on VMware software rely more on legacy approaches to creating clusters that were pioneered for use on physical servers.

Ulander saud Cloud.com has also been able to extend the same level of management functionality to Xen virtual machine environments, which creates the prospect of being able to manage both VMware and Xen virtual servers under a common management framework.

In the near future, Ulander added that Cloud.com, which launched last spring, plans to add support for the vCloud API.
