According to Jake Sorofman, chief marketing officer for rPath, advances in agile application development are outpacing the ability of IT operations to keep pace. New versions of software are becoming available more rapidly, and without some form of IT automation in place, the gains made by developing software faster are lost because IT operations processes can’t keep pace.
Under the terms of the alliance, Collabnet will integrate its TeamForge ALM environment with the rBuilder system automation platform created by rPath.
Sorofman said he expects rPath to sign similar deals with other ALM vendors simply because there is no one ALM platform dominating the market. And while some vendors have ambition to deliver both ALM and IT automation platforms, the development and IT operations tools typically come from different vendors. As such, Sorofman said that IT organizations will look for solutions that span multiple vendors.
