The Ctera Portal allows customers to manage local Ctera appliances where data is initially backed up, and then over time moved to the cloud computing service. According to Ctera Networks CEO Liran Eshel, this ensures that the most recent data stored is available locally in the event of need for recovery, while archived data that is needed much less often is storied in the cloud.
The hybrid approach to backup and recovery can be managed using portal software that can be made available as a service by Ctera Networks, or deployed in a service provider’s data center.

With the continued rise in the amount of data that needs to be managed, IT organizations now have to prioritize which data will be stored locally versus what types of data need to simply be archived to meet compliance requirements. The multi-tier approach to storage management ultimately saves money because customers no longer have to buy dedicated storage devices to house data that is rarely accessed.
