DataStax Rolls Out Cassandra Management Platform

DataStax, formerly known as Riptano, has rolled out a management platform for the open source Apache Cassandra database.

Called DataStax OpsCenter, the new commercial offering is designed to provide a framework for managing multiple instances of the Cassandra database.

Cassandra is a No SQL distributed database that was initially developed by Facebook to provide a column-oriented approach to managing large amounts of data.

According to Ben Werther, DataStax vice president of products, as a larger swath of IT organizations become more interested in Cassandra, they will be looking for tools to help manage the overall Cassandra environment.

Next up, Werther says DataStax will be focusing on creating interfaces that will make it easier to slipstream the Cassandra database into existing environments that rely on other database technologies.
