Dell Revamps PC Lineup

As part of an effort to better meet the needs of an increasingly diverse set of end users, Dell is embarking upon an ambitious effort to update and expand its business computing portfolio. The revamp will cover 24 new Dell business computing solutions and form factors, including laptops, tablets, desktops and workstation computers.

During a press briefing, Dell said it is aiming its improvements specifically at the needs of IT professionals who need durable solutions that are easy to service, install and manage, as well as the needs of Generation Y professionals, who work in fast-paced environments that travel with them and require constant connectivity.

As part of this effort, Dell will release a new line of Latitude laptops and a Latitude XT3 convertible tablet. Dell says the upgraded Latitude laptops feature more than 100 design improvements, including future support for pre-integrated Citrix and VMware remote desktop clients, Intel second-generation Core processors and new graphics and memory, as well as common docking and keyboard design across 26 models.

In addition, Dell is releasing a new family of OptiPlex desktops with new Intel vPro processor technology, new graphics and memory, planned compatibility with a desktop virtualization lineup, and improvements to the chassis and system footprint.

Furthermore, Dell is introducing the Dell Precision T1600 workstation, a single-socket, entry-level workstation designed for professional 2D and entry-level 3D applications, which features ISV certification on AutoCAD, Pro/ENGINEER and other select software applications; Intel second-generation Core and Xeon processors, Intel HD or add-in professional; and graphics from AMD and NVIDIA.

Dell is primarily focusing its IT marketing strategy on the needs of mobile professionals who do not necessarily work in a traditional office.

Dell’s new solutions will launch during the course of 2011. The Dell Latitude E5000 series starts at $859 USD, Dell OptiPlex 390 pricing starts at $650 USD and the starting price for the Dell Precision T1600 workstation is $840.
