Dell Secures Windows File System

Dell today moved to make its PCs more secure at the time of deployment with the release of Dell Data Protection Encryption software.

According to Dave Konetski, Dell’s client security expert, increased awareness of compliance issues has led customers to ask Dell to provide an option of installing encryption software on PCs at the time they are purchased. To accomplish this, Konetski said Dell has extended the basic Windows file system using its software to add encryption at the time of deployment.

In addition, Dell has formed a relationship with Credent Technologies under which it will also make encryption software available for non-Windows systems and smartphones.

As more IT organization are faced with complying with any number of regulations while at the same time dealing with the aftermath of breaches caused by lost or stolen laptops, Konetski said that Dell has come to realize that the time to make encryption a factory-installed option had finally come.
