DLP Service Comes to Facebook and Twitter

As social networking services come of age in the enterprise, the data loss prevention (DLP) issues normally associated with e-mail and instant messaging are now routinely being experienced on social networks.

To help IT organizations deal with this issue, Palisade Systems is adding support for Facebook and Twitter protocols to its PacketSure service for DLP. Palisade Systems makes its DLP technology available as a service that is resold by IT services companies that partner with Palisade Systems.

According to Palisade Systems CEO Christian Renaud, the company’s DLP service has been deliberately designed to be platform-neutral. In recent months, Palisade Systems has seen an increase in reports of usage of Facebook and Twitter, which as replacements for collaborating over e-mail and instant messaging have become conduits for leaking inappropriate information.

The Palisade service is part of growing trend that is seeing utilitarian applications associated with backup and recovery and security increasingly delivered via cloud computing services.
