Egenera Partners with Fujitsu

Egenera today announced a pact under which its software-centric approach to data center convergence will be extended to blade servers from Fujitsu.

Rather than requiring customers to acquire new integrated servers to holistically manage server, storage and networking resources, PAN Manager software from Egenera is designed to allow IT organizations to unify the management of existing IT resources.

At a time when IT budgets are squeezed, Ken Oestreich, Egenera vice president of marketing, says a platform-independent approach allows IT organizations to take a more evolutionary approach to unified computing without having to rely on a single vendor.

That loosely coupled approach to IT automation means customers don’t have to become overly dependent on a single vendor or replace every piece of equipment in their existing data centers.

The Egenera software runs on Dell and Fujitsu server platforms in addition to storage systems from 3PAR, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett-Packard and NetApp. Additional platform support will be forthcoming, said Oestreich.
