The company has introduced the XE series of database management tools, which for the first time allows customers to use the same set of tools to support databases from multiple vendors.
According to Jan Liband, vice president of marketing for Embarcadero Technologies, most customers are already trying to manage multiple databases from different vendors. Asking them to buy tools that are essentially the same for each implementation doesn’t make any fiscal sense, he said.
Liband said the XE Series products are also designed to make all of Embarcadero’s database-management tools available on demand by pre-installing them on a server. If customers discover a need for one of those tools, they can simply invoke them as needed.
Liband added that Embarcadero developed this approach, known as ToolCloud, in response to tight budgets where IT organizations could not easily find additional funding and so preferred to buy what they might need at some unspecified time in the future in a way that did not require them to generate another purchase order.
