According to Jon Siegal, director of product marketing, IT organizations relying on EMC storage can automate the compression and tiering of the storage process all the way from solid-state disks to low-cost disk storage.
Midrange Clariion and Celerra systems make use of the latest Intel 5600 series processors and come with SSDs that support FastCache, management software that identifies which data is being most frequently accessed, and EMC’s Fully Automated Storage Tiering (FAST) software.
Siegal says that as the amount of data that needs to be managed grows, IT organizations will need to rely more on automation to keep pace. With its FAST offerings, customers can analyze I/O patterns to determine which data should reside where in the storage tier and then have those files automatically moved based on policies set by the IT department.
The new Clariion and Celerra storage products support the Unisphere management platform to provide customers with a common storage management framework, have added support for vCenter and VMware API, and later this year will add support for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE).
