FireEye Puts Security Appliance on the Line

FireEye is bringing its next-generation security technology to the frontlines of the battle against malware in the form of a FireEye Malware Protection System.

According to FireEye chief security architect Marc Maiffret, the FireEye Malware Protection System works by executing all incoming application code on top of a virtual machine before passing it through to a server. During this process, the code is examined for malware, which essentially leverages virtualization to protect the rest of the enterprise from harm.

Rather than supporting existing security solutions, the new version of the FireEye appliance runs "in-line" to allow IT organization to begin to consolidate many of the security appliances at the edge of the network that consume an inordinate amount of the security budget while providing only limited functionality. To faciliate that process, the new FireEye appliances include threat prevention software that identifies potential threats even before code is executed on the vitual machine software in the appliance

Separately, FireEye also announced the formation of ModernMalwareExposed.org, a new online community dedicated to explaining how modern malware is developed and the best practices for defending against these types of attacks.

Pricing for the FireEye Malware Protection System starts at $24,950.
