Scalable Analytic Appliance (SAA) II leverages a blended approach to I/O performance that couples existing direct-attached storage to the SAA to boost I/O performance. The new addition brings Flash memory to the SAA to boost performance more quickly, while ParAccel has partnered with EMC to bundle a variety of data protection applications with the appliance alongside a configuration that includes the EMC Clariion CX4 Model 240 storage system.
According to Rick Glick, vice president of technology and architecture for ParAccel, the SAA is designed to easily slipstream into existing data warehouse and storage deployments with a minimum amount of disruption by becoming a natural extension of the direct-attached storage on the server using what the company calls Blended Scan I/O balancing technology.
The SAA device hosts its own massively parallel database where a SQL-compatible data warehouse resides, seen through the SAA as an extension of the existing direct-attached storage system.
