Interstage 11 includes for the first time the ability to deploy software to discover patterns in events that take place across all the relevant enterprise software to identify the patterns that make up a particular business process, as opposed to having to physically interview people to try and establish how a business process theoretically might work.
For business consultants, the ability to auto-discover how a business process actually works represents a significant advance for BRM, which in many cases has been limited to modeling what a business process should theoretically be doing. Here's a diagram of the process.
Other new features in Interstage 11 include modeling tools that allow groups of people to model a process, the ability to model structured and unstructured elements of a process, an enhanced set of dashboards, the ability for the software to make recommendations on how to optimize certain processes, task and project management tracking tools and the ability to deliver information about specific devices to any number of mobile devices.
IT organizations are being increasingly asked to develop systems that support an end-to-end business process, rather than simply deploying enterprise applications, as part of a general movement toward not only getting more value out of IT, but also making IT systems more flexible.
With this version, Fujitsu is also giving customers the option of hosting its BPM software on a cloud computing service, which it notes may be particularly useful when trying to manage business processes that span companies with divergent IT infrastructures.
