GFI Software Migrates to Sunbelt

Americans have been migrating to the Sunbelt for decades, and now GFI Software is joining the craze with its purchase of security solutions provider Sunbelt Software. Specifically, GFI, a vendor of infrastructure security software for small- and medium-sized enterprise, is touting its acquisition of Sunbelt’s VIPRE antivirus/endpoint protection suite.

VIPRE is positioned as an all-in-one endpoint malware protection suite. It combines antivirus, antispyware, and a two-way client firewall into a single agent. As a result, GFI says VIPRE offers cost and efficiency benefits while using low system volume. Other features of VIPRE include a single administrative console, tiered service, and VB100 and ICSA certification.

GFI already possesses security expertise. But by acquiring a suite of highly specialized endpoint malware protection solutions, GFI immediately boosts its antivirus security capabilities without diverting precious R&D resources from other areas of the company.

In addition, GFI is directly serving the needs of its core small-to-mid-sized business base. These companies typically lack the internal time, resources or expertise to research, select and integrate best-of-breed solutions from a variety of vendors. Rather, they are better suited to a computing model where a single vendor can offer (or pre-integrate) most or all of their infrastructure.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The VIPRE suite will be merged into GFI’s security business, while assets of Sunbelt’s software distribution business will be spun into a separate entity. GFI says it is exploring other strategic partnerships.
