Groundwork previously released a version of Groundwork Monitor Enterprise on the Suse version of Linux. But David Dennis, senior director of marketing and business development for Groundwork, said the company is seeing more data centers move to add support for the Ubuntu flavor of Linux as of late.
In addition, he noted that a recent alliance between Canonical and Dell to create a platform for cloud computing environments creates additional opportunities for the new version of the appliance.

Groundwork competes with elements of the network and application monitoring tools for the enterprise that are sold by companies such as Hewlett-Packard and IBM. But because the Groundwork offering is built on top of the open source MySQL database and JBoss application server technologies, Groundwork can be sold for as little as $49 per 100 devices monitored.
The Ubuntu version of the Groundwork appliance is available now.
