HDS Rolls Out Data Ingestor

Hitachi, storage

Hitachi Data Systems today moved to position its storage offerings as a universal backend resource.

With the release of version 4 of Hitachi Content Platform, HDS is including a new Data Ingestor feature that extends the HDS file system to third-party storage resources.

According to Jeff Lundberg, HDS senior product marketing manager for file, content and cloud, the Data Ingestor capability gives customers a way to slipstream a framework for managing storage across the enterprise without having to rip and replace existing storage investments.

Lundberg said the HDS approach also eliminates the need for tape-based backup because the system automatically keeps copies of data available using a distributed object store and comes with new chargeback facilities to allow IT organizations to better allocate storage costs.

The new Data Ingestor facility also makes it easier for customers to introduce distributed object store technology into their enterprise because existing applications can continue to call on traditional file systems deployed on legacy storage assets.
