Hewlett-Packard is highlighting how serious the company is about network security following its acquisition of 3Com’s TippingPoint business unit.
Michael Callahan, senior director of worldwide security product marketing for HP TippingPoint, said the TippingPoint security devices have now been extended into the HP FlexFabric network architecture, thereby allowing HP networking and security devices to be managed under a common framework.
Key elements of the HP security portfolio include the HP TippingPoint Secure Virtualization Framework for securing multiple virtual machines running on the same server and the TippingPoint virtual controller, which links the framework to the TippingPoint intrusion prevention system.
Callahan said HP is seeing increased interest in automating more security functions among its customers. The TippingPoint security technology has been well-received, he said, because it has proven it can manage security threats without compromising network performance.
In addition to outlining its security strategy for TippingPoint, HP this week extended its S-Series to include a blade server implementation of a TippingPoint appliance, while adding an SSL appliance to the company’s lineup.
Separately, HP rolled out a new Fibre Channel over Ethernet switch for its data center-class switches.
