Acquired in 2008, the new version of TRIM provides expanded support for consolidating instances of Microsoft SharePoint servers, the ability to manage records, and expanded search capabilities.
According to Brian Wick, chief marketing officer for HP’s Information Management Group, the growth of SharePoint usage has created the need for a layer of enterprise-class software that can effectively provide a central archive and management system for all the distributed instances of SharePoint. That capability is especially important given compliance requirements and the tendency for distributed groups of workers to delete SharePoint files in order to make room on a local server.
SharePoint itself has a limited records management function within the server, he added, but there’s no effective way to manage records across multiple instances of SharePoint. In addition, TRIM also provides expanded search capabilities that make it easier to discover specific files within distributed sets of SharePoint files.
