HP Rolls Out Powerful, Compact PC

Timed with Earth Day, Hewlett-Packard today unveiled the HP Compaq 6005 Pro Ultra Slim Desktop PC, which leverages a front-side bus architecture and processors from Advanced Micro Devices.

The HP Compaq 6005 Pro also makes no use of harmful brominated flame retardants or polyvinyl chloride in its manufacture, said HP officials.

According to AMD officials, the new HP desktop PC is one of the first instances where AMD is tightly coupling its core processor technology with the graphics processors from the ATI arm of AMD under an architecture called Vision Pro. In addition, the unit makes use of a front-side bus that can leverage up to 8GB of memory using SDRAM technology.

The use of a front-side bus combined with the low energy consumption of AMD processors gives the unit the ability to provide more total processing power in a compact system that stands 9.9 x 10 X 2.6-in.

The system, which comes bundled with DASH systems management software from HP, can be configured with Phenom II X4, Athlon II X2 or X4 or Sempron processors from AMD.

Pricing for the new systems start at $599..
