HyTrust at the VMworld 2010 conference previewed HyTrust Cloud Control and rolled out a new version of its appliance for managing virtualization security that adds support for multi-domain directories, VMware vSphere 4.1 and the Cisco Nexus 1000V virtual switch.
In addition, HyTrust announced support for the VMware vCloud Director orchestration engine and the RSA enVision platform for managing security event information management (SIEM).
According to Hytrust CEO Eric Chiu, HyTrust Cloud Control is designed to provide role-based access control to VMware enviroments. The goal, said Chiu, is to be able to provide security for virtual machine deployment in multi-tenant architectures typically associated with cloud computing deployments. Managing these environments, said Chiu, requires an approach that can manage security polices where the change order for virtual machines is going to be an order of magnitude greater than anything most IT organizations normally deal with today.
In contrast, Chiu said most existing security tools are designed to only lock the proverbial enterprise door without providing much intelligence in terms of managing the overall environments.
HyTrust Appliance Enterprise Edition is licensed at $750 per CPU for each ESX host. A free HyTrust Appliance Community Edition is also available that supports up to three hosts and is downloadable from the Web.
