According to IBM officials, the Guardium acquisition is intended to bolster both IBM’s data management tools and give the company access to a portfolio of tools that automate many of the compliance processes surrounding a database.
The Guardium tools are also cross-platform, which would help IBM expand its data management capabilities beyond its existing enterprise software portfolio, while at the same time better address growing customer concerns over data security.
With the addition of the Guardium tools, IBM is also continuing to expand its portfolio of IT process automation tools, which company officials have identified in the past as a strategic series of investments designed to lower the cost of enterprise computing.
IBM plans to integrate Guardium into the company’s Information Management Software portfolio of products and services.
