Imperva today extended its approach to securing data to include the file systems where most information of importance increasingly lies.
With the release of a File Security offering in its SecureSphere Data Security Suite, Imperva can now secure data that resides in a database, Web applicaton server or file system.
As cyber criminals increasing target applications, IT organizations are discovering that securing the perimeter of the network is not enough. Instead, they must allocate funds to secure the data where it is stored. This is creating some tension about where security budgets are allocated within IT organizations. But as IT organizations become more aware of the sophistication of ongoing attacks, a bigger percentage of the IT budget will be allocated directly to securing data, said Raphael Reich, Imperva director of product marketing.
Prior to the launch of File Security, most IT organizations depend on access-control lists (ACL) stored in Active Directory to secure files. But Reich says ACL approaches are easily circumvented and many IT organizations need a much more granular approach to determine who should have access to what specific types of data and when that access is allowed.
To that end, the Imperva File Security appliance manages user-access rights and real-time audits of who is accessing which files at any given moment.
