Intel Partners with Liquid Computing for Convergence

While it’s generally assumed that major systems vendors will take the lead in terms of driving digital convergence, Liquid Computing announced today a deal under which its unified data center management software will be made available to Intel's custom system builder partners.

Under the terms of a partnership announced today, Intel will make a new Liquid Elements offering, an integrated set of software and hardware components that allows server, storage and network resources to be managed holistically, available to its partners.

The Liquid Computing approach differs sharply from rival approaches being put forth by Cisco, Hewlett-Packard and others in that it is a platform-independent approach to providing data center convergence. That approach is crucial, said company officials, because it does not require customers to abandon their existing IT equipment in order to unify the management of the disparate elements of the data center.

Instead, Liquid Computing provides an agnostic approach to accomplishing the same goal that can also be extended to any future systems that are added to the fabric of the data center.

Initiially, Intel will support the deployment on LiquidIQ on systems based on Intel Server System SR1680MV rack servers and NetApp storage devices to create what company officials are describing as a “data center in a box.”
