Invincea Moves Browsers on to Virtual Appliance

Invincea today launched a new approach to running Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers on top of virtual appliance software in order to ensure Web security.

According to Anup Ghosh, co-founder and chief scientist for Invincea, the company’s Invincea Browser Protection solution allows IT organizations to isolate Web browsers from the underlying operating system to make sure that no malware on the Web gets passed through to the underlying IT infrastructure.

The second Invincea Browser Protection software detects a threat in real time; the Invincea software, says Ghosh, will terminate that session and then restore the browser session to where the user was before they encountered that threat.

Ghosh says Invincea Browser Protection is a low-overhead approach to gaining the benefits of virtualization without having to invest in expensive desktop virtualization solutions that are complicated to manage.

In addition, Ghosh says Invincea Browser Protection is much more effective than traditional “sandbox” approaches to providing browser security because running a browser in a sandbox is only effective against known threats.
