Ipswitch Enables File Transfer via the Web

Ipswitch, Inc. is releasing Sendable, a Web-based file transfer solution the company says provides secure, real-time file transfer capability.

Capable of transferring files up to 15GB in size, Sendable uses a Web interface to enable the transfer of virtual files. Sendable provides e-mail notification when files are received, downloaded and opened, and also allows file senders to control the number of downloads allowed per document.

On the security and compliance side of things, Sendable uses end-to-end encryption, FIPS-validated cryptography, file integrity checking and non-repudiation to help ensure unauthorized users do not gain access to files that are transferred. In addition, Sendable offers standard security measures such as password-protection and file expiration dates.

Ipswitch says files transferred via Sendable are compliant with all major industry and government regulations, including HIPAA, SOX, PCI DSS, COBIT and FISMA. Users can conduct an audit trail of files to track compliance issues.

According to Ipswitch, most users still transfer files through insecure external devices, such as DVDs, thumb drives or even courier services. This may somewhat debatable, as online file transfer is not a new concept, but there is growing interest using these services as an alternative to e-mail. A high degree of user control even after a file is transferred and thorough e-mail notification are two features that may distinguish Sendable in its field.

Sendable is currently available online for free user trial. Following free trial, cost is $17.95 per month for the standard edition and $27.95 per month for the advanced edition. Phone and e-mail support is $9.99 per month for both versions.
