Jaspersoft Embraces Big Data

With the size and scope of Big Data applications expanding on an almost daily basis, IT organizations are looking for simpler ways to give end users access to those applications.

Jaspersoft today moved to address that problem with the release of a broad set of connectors that natively integrate its open source business intelligence software with Big Data sources such as Hadoop, NoSQL and massively parallel processing (MPP) data analytic engines from IBM Netezza, EMC Greenplum and Vertica.

According to Jaspersoft CEO Brian Gentile, customers have generally ignored the potential value of Big Data sources within the enterprise until new Hadoop, No SQL and MPP analytic engines made it cost effective to process large amounts of data. But IT organizations don’t want to have to master the nuances of accessing these data sources so they are asking BI vendors to embed native interfaces inside their applications to make this data accessible whether it is running on premise or in the cloud.

The new interfaces, he said, are an extension of the company's recently revamped application integration strategy.

From a business perspective, this is critical because rather than making business decisions based on slices of data, business executives want analysis on larger sets of data that gives them more confidence in the decisions they are making.
