JasperSoft Extends Business Intelligence Reach

JasperSoft today will roll out a upgrade to its business intelligence application that for the first time will result in an enterprise edition of its open source software.

According to JasperSoft CEO Brian Gentile, version 3.7 of the company’s namesake software adds enhancement to the application's ability to run in memory, support for Flash-based visualization of data, an integrated search tool and context-sensitive help. This new release has also been certified to be compatible with data sources such as Infobright, Vertica, Green Plum and JBoss, he said.

The Enterprise Edition of the application adds audit logging for compliance, a relational OLAP database, ETL capabilities, tighter integrations with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and a multi-tenancy architecture for organizations that want to deploy JasperSoft as a service.

Gentile says the enhanced in-memory capabilities give customers the option of deploying Jaspersoft in memory for analytics before having to implement a database, or relying on the ROLAP database in the Enterprise Edition if they so choose.

The Jaspersoft CEO said that on the heels of a banner year for JasperSoft in 2009, customers should expect at least two more major releases in 2010, including one that would significantly increase the collaboration capabilities of the business intelligence application.
