Juniper Acquires Trapeze Networks

Juniper Networks is purchasing enterprise wireless local area network (WLAN) systems vendor Trapeze Networks in an all cash transaction valued at approximately $152 million. With this purchase, WLAN infrastructure will become a key part of Juniper's networking portfolio.

Most notably, Trapeze offers a WLAN architecture called Smart Mobile, which is designed to allow enterprises to adopt high-performance 802.11n networks, deliver voice for hundreds of users, and securely and manageably scale their WLANs across the enterprise indoors and outdoors.

In addition, Trapeze offers wireless networking products including the Mobility System Software (MSS) operating system, a full line of Mobility Exchange WLAN controllers, Mobility Point access points, an advanced access control product called SmartPass, the RingMaster wireless management suite, antennas and accessories, and location-based software and appliances.

Juniper is betting Trapeze’s WLAN technology will prove complementary to its existing campus and branch switching, routing and security business. Customers will be able to build new networks based on Juniper's end-to-end routing, security, wired and wireless switching infrastructure.

By including WLAN technologies and services in its networking portfolio, Juniper will be able to allow its customers to offer “end-to-end” networks that extend anywhere the user is located.

This acquisition is anticipated to close by the end of the year, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory reviews.
