Rather than follow what it terms “old network” protocols of adding servers to boost performance or sacrificing speed to reduce costs, Juniper says its “new network” uses a cloud architecture to increase network efficiency while lowering operational costs. Specifically, Juniper says its new network can cut time to operation by up to 50 percent and eliminate up to 35 percent of data center networking capital expenditures.
One key to Juniper’s enhanced networking model is a new fabric technology called “Virtual Chassis,” which Juniper says can currently reduce from three to two layers, and will reduce to a single layer in the future. In addition, Juniper says it is introducing new 10GB Ethernet switches and routers that will yield up to five-fold and eight-fold improvements in network performance, respectively.
Juniper says it is also driving better and easier performance through its JunOS network operating system, single software release chain, and flexible software platforms and applications. One of these applications, Virtual Control, manages physical and virtual systems from a common orchestration platform, enabled by open APIs from VMware. The company provides network security and a services portfolio, as well.
