Kroll Ontrack Extends Data Recovery Service

Kroll Ontrack today will extend its data recovery technology to encompass solid-state drives and flash drives that are becoming more prevalent across the enterprise.

The Ontrack Data Recovery tools were originally developed for use on hard drives. But the tools have now been extended to include support for SSDs and flash drives, said Jeff Pederson, manager of Ontrack Data Recovery operations.

Although these drives fail less often than hard disks, Pederson noted that when they do experience an electrical failure it’s extremely difficult to recover information due to the way data is stored on these devices using a technique known as wear leveling, which distributes blocks of data evenly across the disk. That approach makes reconstituting files from those disks more difficult, said Pederson.

The Ontrack service is priced based on the complexity of each project after an initial assessment of the type and amount of data that needs to be recovered from the device.

I received 1 st mortgage loans when I was a teenager and that helped my business very much. Nevertheless, I need the collateral loan also.
Nice to hear more companies are officially supporting SSD recovery. Although a lot of traditional utilities work on these drives, they tend to be a bit less effective. What exactly has OnTrack changed in their systems to make this improvement?
