According to Laszlo Systems CEO George Shahid, the data integration challenge with cloud computing is twofold. The first is integrating data at the back end in the cloud, the second is integrating data at the end user level in a way that makes it easy for users to share information.
Shahid says he expects Laszlo partners to leverage Webtop Cloud to compete more effectively with Google and Microsoft as both those companies look to muscle their way into the cloud computing market at time when more unified communications offerings will be increasingly delivered as a service.
As a software-as-a-service offering, Webtop Cloud integrates e-mail, voice, messaging and social networks under a common rich, graphical interface for thin client computing that Laszlo developed earlier.
Shaid added that one of the advantages to this approach is that the architecture is agnostic in terms of the code base, so if a provider decides to move away from say Flash, all they have to do is recompile the application and it will run via Webtop Cloud.
