Lenovo Embraces Type 1 Hypervisors

Lenovo has partnered with Virtual Computer to optimize the NxTop desktop virtualization software created by Virtual Computer on Lenovo on specific laptop and desktop PC environments.

As a bare medal Xen-based Type 1 hypervisor, the NxTop client virtualization software is designed primarily to simplify the overall management of the PC environment, compared with Type 2 hypervisors that allow guest operating systems to share the same virtual machine.

According to Virtual Computer CEO Dan McCall, Type 1 hypervisor systems introduce no performance penalties while providing IT organizations with a simplified approach to managing client systems regardless of the operating system environment they are running. This approach sharply reduces the cost of managing a distributed PC environment.

The NxTop environment also makes it possible to run multiple virtual machines on the same client, thereby making it easier to separate personal and corporate applications when they are running on the same device.
