Leostream Extends Broker Reach

Leostream at the VMworld 2010 conference released version 7.0 of Connection Broker, which adds tighter integration with VMware View virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and support for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices from Apple.

According to Leostream CEO Mike Palin, IT organizations are being challenged by a proliferation of approaches to desktop virtualization that requires an independent approach to brokering technology that manages the integration of all these devices with backend systems. While brokering technology is provided by many companies offering desktop virtualization solutions, all of those offering are optimized around one specific approach to desktop virtualization.

In addition to adding support for the PC-over-Internet (PCoIP) protocol favored by VMware, the new edition adds support for clustering, failover and other new management features.

Although desktop virtualization is still a comparatively nascent technology in the enterprise, Palin says Leostream is betting that the proliferation of Windows and Linux desktop alongside a host of new mobile computing platforms will push IT organizations to independent third-party brokering technology.
