LogLogic Expands Role of Log Management

LogLogic wants to expand the usefulness of log management in the daily operations of the IT department.

The company today rolled out version 5.0 of its namesake log management system, which includes a new more efficient way for gathering log data and the ability to categorize that data in order to make it easier to find the system events that an IT organization is looking for.

According to LogLogic CTO Stephen Manley, LogLogic 5 is designed to allow IT organizations to take advantage of a new Log Labels tools to create an IT ontology that leverages tags created not only by LogLogic, but also custom tags created by the IT organization.

That data can then be searched after via a new user interface that LogLogic is making available with this release. LogLogic also intends to make the underlying data transport protocol used in its Universal Collection Framework available as open source technology in the near future.

The end goal, says Manley, is to extend the role of log management to create a system of alerts that are customizable to not only IT systems issues, but to also track events that can be specific to any number of vertical industries.

LogLogic 5 will be available next month.
