Lucid Brings Open Source Search to Enterprise

Lucid Imagination today announced an enterprise version of its commercial search engine offering based on open source Solr/Lucene technology.

Previously, the Lucid implementation of the open source search engine technology has been focused mainly on websites. But as the amount of data that needs to be managed continues to spiral, Lucid Imagination CEO Eric Gries says that demand for effective enterprise search prompted Lucid to focus more on traditional enterprise customers.

LucidWorks Enterprise comes with REST APIs and allows IT organizations to scale enterprise search implementations without having to worry about costly licensing fees, said Gries.

The Lucid offering is easy to install and includes a framework for measuring the relevance of documents on an ongoing basis, he added.

Gries says that open source technology on which the LucidWorks Enterprise is based is downloaded about 10,000 times a day, making it one of the most popular open source projects on the Web.
