Lumension Looks to Integrate Anti-Virus Software

As a precursor to changing the way its customers manage security software, Lumension has inked a deal to resell anti-virus software from Norman ASA along with its existing suite of end point management software.

Rather than have a separate management infrastructure for anti-virus software, Lumension officials said they expect by the second quarter of 2010 to be able to integrate the management of the Norman software into the same management system that Lumension uses for its own products.

This move follows similar recent moves by Sophos to integrate data loss prevention software with its security software, which like Lumension is seeing increased competition from companies such as Symantec that are getting more aggressive about integrating systems and security management frameworks.

From the customer’s perspective, that level of integration can reduce costs by simplifying the overhead associated with managing security as a dedicated activity.
