Operating under the premise that most end users don’t back up files on their own because existing backup and recovery software is too cumbersome, Mozy is making a case that the entire process should be moved to a service. To facilitate that shift, the company today rolled out version 2.0 of its service, which adds a simpler interface, faster upload times and more efficient use of network bandwidth.
Many of these features are designed to appeal to both consumers and internal IT organizations that are looking for a service to outsource backup and recovery tasks at a time when most IT organizations are under pressure to add more value to the business by eliminating as many mundane tasks as possible.
Russ Stockdale, chief marketing officer for Mozy, added that IT organizations are especially interested in outsourcing backup and recovery tasks in remote branch offices.
