MuleSoft Extends Tomcat Server Management

MuleSoft today becomes one of the first providers of application server software to support the latest iteration of the open source Tomcat application server.

With the release of Tomcat 7, MuleSoft is releasing version 3.0 of Tcat Server 6, which in addition to supporting integration with Windows Server platforms adds enterprise-class management capabilities.

According to Sateesh Narahari, MuleSoft director of product management, the MuleSoft implementation of the Tomcat application server allows IT organizations to take advantage of open source software without having to sacrifice the management capabilities associated with commercial application servers such as IBM Websphere or Oracle WebLogic.

Among those new management capabilities are the ability to create server profiles that can be replicated across multiple instances of Tomcat application servers, said Narahari.

As IT organizations continue to cast about for ways to save money, many have begun to consider major application modernization projects that would effectively lower their costs by replacing existing hardware and software infrastructure with open source alternatives.

The challenge, said Narahari, is finding ways to do that while still being able to rely on the support provided by a vendor such as MuleSoft.
