HydraStor is based on a grid computing architecture that dynamically scales to meet the performance requirements of any given application. According to Gideon Senderov, the addition of the Symantec software complements an in-line global deduplication capability in the NEC storage system.
The HydraStor system, said Senderov, analyzes data in real time to create an "optimized copy" of files and other data that allows the system to dynamically balance I/O across multiple nodes in the storage system.
As IT organizations deal with rapidly growing amounts of data and the I/O performance demands of virtual servers, the need for storage systems that can dynamically scale is increasing rapidly. The challenge is to find a storage system that creates pools of storage across terabytes of drives that can dynamically respond to application performance requirements without requiring each application to have its own dedicated storage array.
